简介: Martin Buzza obtained his PhD from the CavendishLaboratory,Cambridge in condensed matter theory workingwith Mike Cates. After joining the group of Tom McLeish atthe IRC in Polymer Science &Technology at the Universityof Leeds, first as a postdoctoral researcher, then as an EPSRCAdvanced Research Fellow,he moved to the University ofHull where he is currently Reader in Theoretical andComputational Physics. His research is in theoretical andcomputational soft matter, and he employs a variety of coarse-grained methods such as particle-based simulations, finiteelement methods and analytical theory to study the behaviourof soft matter systems such as colloids, surfactants andpolymers.

摘要: In recent years,self-assembly has emerged as apowerful tool for fabricating functional materials.Since self-assembly is fundamentally determined by the particleinteractions in the system,if we can gain full control overthese interactions,it would open the door for creatingfunctional materials by design. In this talk,I will show howwe can exploit capillary interactions between colloidalparticles at liquid interfaces to create two-dimensional(2D)materials,which provides us with a unique opportunity tocontrol he entire process chain for materials design, frominitial design and fabrication of the building blocks,to finalassembly of the emergent 2D material.
